First, review the questions below. And then if they don't help, you can submit a question to us.Category: Email| # | Question |
| 1. | Why isn't MyFantasyLeague.com sending me email? Answer: Diagnosing email problems can be a very frustrating, time-consuming task, especially as more and more spammers clog the Internet with their spam. That said, hopefully this list of items to check will help make that task a bit easier.
Possible causes of you not being able to receive the email that the site is supposed to send you include:
1. The owner's email address has been entered incorrectly. To make sure that the email address that has been entered into MyFantasyLeague.com is correct, do the following:
• Go to the Franchise Information report for the franchise in question.
• Click on their email address.
• Send them a test message.
• If you get an error message back, or they never receive the message, then most likely the email address registered with MyFantasyLeague.com is incorrect. To correct the email address, just choose the Franchise Setup option for the franchise in question.
2. The commissioner's email address and/or another owners email address is entered incorrectly on the site. The site requires all email addresses to be valid, as it tries to make the email that it generates to be "From" your commissioner or one of your league-mates. If an invalid email address is entered, your ISP might be set up to reject an email due to it recognizing the email as coming from an invalid address.
3. The owner has elected to not receive email from the system. This option can be changed via the Franchise Setup - Contact Info screen.
4. Any draft picks made in the "live draft" mode will not be emailed to owners. The "live draft" mode is like a chat room, where it is expected that many or most people from your league will be logged on at the same time to conduct the draft, so there would be no need to have email updates of the draft while in the live draft chat room.
5. For auctions, the emails are sent out under the following circumstances:
• When a new player goes up for auction, everyone in the league gets an email
• When a player is won at auction, everyone gets an email
• If you are a current high bidder in an auction, and you subsequently get out-bid, you (and only you) get an email.
6. You haven't waited long enough to receive the email message. MyFantasyLeague.com sends out email immediately once the transaction or weekly score update takes place. However, the Internet's email rules (protocol) is more like a post office than a telephone call, and sometimes it can take several hours or more for you to receive the email in question. In rare, but extreme cases, we've received email more than a year old. Experience has shown that this is especially true with AOL.
7. You (or your ISP, or your company) has "spam" filtering software installed. MyFantasyLeague.com "masks" the sender of the email message to make it seem like the message came from your league commissioner, which makes it easy to reply to the message. This masking may cause some email filtering programs to consider it spam, and thus not deliver it. Check your email program, and with your ISP, to make sure that automatic spam filtering is not done. Note to AOL users: please go under AOL keyword "Mail Controls" to be sure that your account is set up to allow the site to send you email!
8. If you have a MSN/HotMail/Windows Live account, you should add "MyFantasyLeague.com" (without the quotes) and your commissioner's email address to your HotMail Safe List. Also, you will need your "Options > Junk Email Protection > Junk Email Filter" setting must be set to "Low" (and not the default setting, which is "Enhanced"). Note that if you leave this setting to be "Enhanced", all myfantasyleague.com email will end up in your junk email folder.
9. Your email provider is having problems. We send out email within minutes of a transaction occurring. However, that is not a guarantee that you will receive it immediately. If your email provider or any intermediate email router is having problems on their end, you will not receive that email until their problems are resolved. The easiest way to determine if that's the case is - are you receiving email from other people at this same address? If not, that's a good indication that the problem might be with your email provider.
10. Have your commissioner check the "For Commissioners Email Log report - does the system report any problems with sending an email to you?
11. The final check you can do - have one of your league mates who is receiving email from the site check the "To:" line of the message that they are getting from the site to look for your email address listed. If it is listed, you can tell that the site is sending you email the same way and at the same time that it is sending your league-mates email, so the problem must be with #6 or #7 above. Please note, however, that the reverse is not true - just because your league-mate does not see your email address on the "To:" line of the message that the site sends to them, it does not mean that the site is not sending you email! Please also see the FAQ question, Why isn't MyFantasyLeague.com sending my league-mate email? for further clarification.
12. If none of the above applies to you, and you still are not able to receive MyFantasyLeague.com email, please contact us via our online support form and we'll try to look into the problem. Make sure to include your 5-digit league ID and franchise name in your email message!
One additional note on this topic: Spam has become the scourge of the Internet. Anti-spam software vendors, ISPs, and corporations are constantly tweaking the rules for what they consider spam. On occasion, legitimate email from your MyFantasyLeague.com league gets mis-identified as spam (termed a 'false-positive'). The end result is that while the email gets sent to your emailbox, the spam filter blocks receipt at the user's emailbox, and the user just assumes it was never delivered. This can even occur with some of the league email going to one emailbox, but not other league email going to the same emailbox. Please understand that this is completely out of our control. It would be similar to having your local mail carrier decide to NOT put a letter in your home mailbox. While the sender would have sent it, you still would not receive it. Of course this is not the fault of the sender. Please do not rely exclusively on the site to notify you of various situations in your league. Periodically check your league pages to ensure you are up to date regarding your league's activities.
Lastly, based on our experience, it appears that free-email services such as Yahoo, HotMail, Google, etc. are far more aggressive about what they consider to be spam. If you choose to use a free email account, your ability to receive the email sent by the site is therefore more likely to be blocked and compromised.

| 4. | I use Yahoo! for email, and I've had long delays in receiving email from MyFantasyLeague.com recently - why? Answer: Unfortunately, Yahoo! seems to be forcing a delay in the delivery of many emails from MyFantasyLeague.com - sometimes the delay is as little as four hours, but in other cases, the delay is days long. We've been in touch with the folks at Yahoo to try to get this issue resolved, but as of today (August 26th, 2009), we don't have a resolution to this problem.
In the mean time, here are a couple of things you might want to consider doing if you're experiencing this problem:
1 ) Contact Yahoo, and let them know about this delay, and how it's aversely impacting you. If they hear this message from enough customers, there's a better chance they'll actually fix this problem, rather than letting it linger.
2 ) Create another email account on one of the many free email services out there that don't have this problem, like Google's Gmail
3 ) Check your MyFantasyLeague.com league web site more frequently, instead of relying on Yahoo!'s email delivery.

| 5. | Why isn't MyFantasyLeague.com sending my league-mate email? I'm receiving email and noticed that their address is not also listed in the "To:" line. Answer: If you don't see a given owner's name on the "To:" line of your email message from the site, don't just assume that he's not getting sent an email message. The site sends out up to two messages for common league events; one for "HTML" and another for "plain text" messages. If you've opted to receive email in one format, and the other owner has opted to receive email in the other format, each of your email addresses will not appear on the "To:" line of the other's email. Before assuming that someone is not getting an email, please check with them to be sure that they are not getting it.

| 6. | When sending email to the entire league, why does my email program only send to the first address in the list? Answer: Some email programs use a comma to separate multiple email addresses, while others use a semicolon. The system tries to figure out what separator is appropriate for you, and uses the correct one most of the time. Sometimes, it guesses wrong, which causes this problem.
If you're running Microsoft Outlook, and are having this problem, you can correct this by following these instructions.
1. Go to Tools | Options
2. From the "Preferences" tab, click the first button for Email options.
3. Next, click the Advanced email options
4. In the bottom section check the option for "Allow comma as address separator"
If that doesn't help, or if you're running a program other than Outlook for email, please contact us via our online support form in reference to this email separator problem. In your support ticket, please be sure to let us know what email program you're using, and there's a chance we'll be able to tweak the system to solve this problem for you.

| 7. | Why do I get the error message "Could not perform the operation because the default mail client is not installed properly." when clicking on the Email To Entire League screen? (Or, why is my "To:" line truncated when I click on the Email To Entire League screen?) Answer: According to Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 182985, there is a bug in Microsoft's Outlook email programs which limits the number of characters that can be included in a "mailto:" link to 456. You can find a work-around to the problem at that page, or, if possible, you might want to consider upgrading to a newer email program that does not have that bug in it.

| 8. | Why am I getting duplicate emails? Answer: Due to the erratic nature of the Microsoft spam filters, email from the site is sometimes incorrectly targeted as spam on Hotmail and MSN email accounts. To combat this problem, the site will always send a plain text email message type to users of the above email accounts. If you also have your email type set to the HTML default, then it will generate two emails. The easiest fix is to go to For Owners > Franchise Setup - Contact Info link or For Commissioners > Setup > Commissioner Email Setup screens and change the email type from HTML to Plain Text.

| 9. | Why doesn't my "Email to Entire League" or "Email to Commissioner" option work? Answer: When you use the option to Email your League or Email your Commissioner, MyFantasyLeague.com prompts your browser for the Email Program (such as Microsoft Outlook, Eudora, etc.) that you have defined to send email.
MyFantasyLeague.com acts as an Address Book to store your commissioner and owners email addresses and the Browser defined program will be the actual program used to send your email.
If you are using Internet Explorer then you can choose your PC based email program by going to the File > Internet Options and click on the "Programs" tab.

| 10. | How do I use the Email Log page? Answer: This report details to the commissioner all system-generated emails, including:
| • | Who the email was sent from |
| • | Who the email was sent to. |
| • | The subject of the email. |
| • | The time the email was sent. |
| • | Actual email addresses the email was sent to. |
| • | Any errors/problems with sending the email. |
This report will be useful in answering question from owners along the lines of "Why isn't MyFantasyLeague.com sending me email?". Note that if the system cannot send an email to a given email address due to it being an invalid email address, it will stop sending email to that address.
